Mandatory Evacuation

Please note the following from Daufuskie Island Fire Chief Eddie Boys:

If you were unable to tune in to Governor Haley’s news conference at 3PM, you can find the video here:

To summarize, there is a medical evacuation underway as of 3PM today and a mandatory evacuation scheduled for 3PM tomorrow, Wednesday October 5, 2016, of “all coastal communities”. All schools and government offices will be closed. The governor’s office is recommending that folks travel at least 100 miles in from the coast as sustained winds of 100+ mph and storm surge of 5-7’ are possible.

The Fire District is currently under operational condition two.

There will be a county ferry run leaving from the Melrose dock at Daufuskie on Wednesday 10-5-16. There will be no charge for this ferry and is for anyone evacuating Daufuskie Island. The destination of the county ferry run is Palmetto Bay and then the Haig Point dock on Hilton Head. This is a county supplied run operated by Haig Point and is a onetime run. There are no second county supplied ferry runs for the purpose of this evacuation. The time of the ferry departure will be announced Wednesday at least 3 hours prior to leaving the Melrose dock.

Captain Joe will be running a boat off of Daufuskie tomorrow at 12:00 noon at no charge for anyone needing a way off Daufuskie. That will be the only boat leaving from Freeport Marina. Departure is from Freeport Marina with the destination of Broad Creek Marina.

Stay safe everyone!
