Our hearts are broken and our sadness is immense since the loss of our cherished daughter and sister Julie. We as a family will greatly miss our Julie but take comfort in knowing she is always with us. Election Note: As you cast your vote in the upcoming Nov 8 election, there is one local ballot question particularly affecting Daufuskie –

Local Question #1 proposes a Beaufort County 1% sales tax to fund capital projects. Two of the nominated projects are on Daufuskie:
– Daufuskie Island Consolidation of Island-Wide Solid Waste Disposal ($1.8 million)
– Daufuskie Island Road Right-of-Ways ($1.35 million)
The question asks for a Yes or No vote. Please consider the potential impact for Daufuskie when voting.

An Important Note from the Publisher

Dear Front Porch Readers,

In November of 2008 I was asked to take over the editorship of the Front Porch.
I am now finishing my eighth year and it is time for me to retire. After a year of searching, it does not appear that anyone is interested in taking over this job and the next issue will be our last. The good news is that the island no longer needs the Front Porch.

Bloody Point Lighthouse is hosting a Fall Harvest Fest, October 1, 2016 from 3pm-7pm.  Join us for food, fun, historical presentations, and games for the kids.  No admission cost for presentations.  We will also have a Pig Roast and Oyster Roast.  Cost to eat will be $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 12 years of age.  Includes all you can eat pork, oysters, sides, nonalcoholic drink.  Beer and Wine bar available at an additional cost.

From the Daufuskie Island Conservancy:

The Daufuskie Island  Annual Fall Beach Clean Up will be Saturday, September 17th at 2:00PM
Volunteers are asked to gather at 2:00p.m. at one of two locations on the Island:
Beach Road Gazebo at Bloody Point
Calibogue Beach Club at Haig Point
We will distribute supplies, assign teams and clean up areas along the Calibogue Beach and the Atlantic Ocean Beach from Haig Point to Bloody Point. Refreshments will be provided. The time will coincide with Low Tide.
Volunteers are advised to wear hard sole shoes & gloves, bring water bottles, wear sunscreen, hat or sun visor.
Only approved vehicles are permitted on the beach as several turtle nests will remain.
