After 17 years of faithful service Dr. Clarence Edmondson retired July, 2015, as pastor of Daufuskie Island’s First Union African Church. He accepted the church’s call to pastor in July of 1998. During his tenure the congregation increased and the church achieved numerous accomplishments: recognition as a member of the Savannah River Baptist Association, revival of Vacation Bible School, the development of an Island Good Neighbor Fund, installation of a children’s Sunday School; Mary Field School renovations and more.

Pastor Clarence lived the church’s mission statement faithfully for many years….” Changing the world (certainly our sweet little island corner of it) by evangelizing, exalting, edifying and equipping.” Though a small church and congregation, our unique circumstances with visitors from varied locations allowed his sermons and messages to plant a seed in many hearts that traveled with them throughout the world.

The congregation and visitors celebrated his blessings of service with an amazing and delicious community potluck following his final service the first Sunday of July, 2015. In appreciation for his service he was presented with a Club Car golf cart by the church members – very suitable for his fishing days around his Bluffton neighborhood.
We love you Pastor Clarence!
